Discrimination based on sex and skin color?!? Thought we had moved past this as a Nation. As an older American, i miss the days of meritocracy when hard work and skill earned you the job.
You guys are looking at this in a bad way instead of a golden opportunity.
Have a son that's a failure-to-launch type but you know could do something? Tell him to grow a mustache, go to tanning beds, and identify as Hispanic on the United airlines training application.
I bet your kid is more hispanic than Elizabeth Warren is native american anyway....
communism rewards the dumbest to do the bidding of the government as a reward for being loyal no matter how stupid the policies are, this is how communism works..
Fifty buck on that suicidal man who pretends to be a woman but kept his genitals for the kids at the local library's "Heshee Story Hour" is gonna crash it into Mt Rushmore due to stage 45 TDS.
They cannot meet that number as the supply of pilots that meet that criteria doesn't exist yet. However, keep an eye on Air Force and Navy pilots in the next two years. If they are "diverse" then in 4-5 years, they'll move into commercial flights.
It's all about supply. Only 20% of engineering students are females (how many are foreign born AZN?). How many pilots military and non, are LGBT, Non-white and or female? Supply is very low now.
Updoote for you - I'm a pilot, in my time flying I've only met a single gay (that i know of) pilot. This is just a PR stunt and repayment for all of the money they received.
I'd say 1 in 8 pilots is female or hispanic / black.... and besides they don't ask about sexual orientation in the interview so....again, total BS
Just read through the responses on twitter. They are getting absolutely slammed for this tweet. The only people who are siding with them are the blue haired feminazis that no one pays attention to anyway.
United Airlines: We admit it. Either there aren't enough qualified non-white or female pilots or we're just racists and misogynists and intentionally don't hire them. As a result, we're going to overcompensate by hiring people who aren't qualified, but will help us win social justice/woke points.
I'd love to know flight passenger demographics. My cousin married a helicopter mechanic. He's black (as my family is black), and an ex gang member who got out. He wasn't hired for diversity. and he makes big money. He actually had to be better than his gang tats. Nobody wants a dude with gang tats, but he was just that good in school, worked with some other mechanics who vouched for him saying yeah he's got a lot of gang tats, but he's clean now.
This is great and I am happy he got out. You read a lot of stories about very good people on patriots.win who just had a bad start in life, but were given a second chance and able to turn their lives around.
Hard work and merit are always to be rewarded. That is the best for our society.
Exactly. United might want to hire more "diverse" people but the FAA still has strict policies to become a pilot. It takes a LONG time to become a pilot and its expensive and time consuming. It takes years. Luckily, the difficulty will deter most of these unqualified people.
If they go through with this, they'll have a pilot shortage in no time. It's a male dominated industry, not because women are excluded - there just aren't many interested in going through the many tough years of training and financial debt. I've trained and flown with some awesome female pilots, black pilots, latina pilots, asian pilots, whatever. I've flown with shitty ones, too. Same goes for white males - great ones and awful ones. I don't know any politically conservatives or Trump supports (by far the majority of professional pilots) that give a rats ass about skin color or gender.......unless it's a made up one - then we think twice before leaving the cockpit to go use the lav.
All this woke bullshit is going to ruin America's ever improving aviation safety records with more shit like what led to the sleepy Colgan Air crash, breakdown of CRM, pilots with many failures on their record but carried through training anyway, etc.
I’m a commercial student. My school has one woman CFI; she doesn’t fly more than 3 hours per day. At any time, we have 2-3 women students; one has advanced past IFR, in 2 years. We have scholarships for women, we hold events for women, we send out email blasts, but female enrollment has not budged.
I’ll tell you what has budged, though. Our school has been in a deep minority reach program. I don’t have any qualms with trying to expose people to new experiences, and, in fact, I’ve flown with tons of minorities, and they have all been perfectly capable, professional airmen. The effects on our students, and airspace, has been a disaster. I fly out of a busy D, about 10 miles away from a B. Our airspace is polluted with people who cannot communicate with ATC. Not just VFR, IFR students are ignoring, or completely mangling, calls, busting B, and flying through localizer courses, OF THE B!.
You know this, but others have to know, 200-ton airliners do not fly themselves. They require an extraordinary amount of training, and skill, from two pilots, and a crew. When I am departing from Atlanta, I cannot have the pilot monitoring fumbling around with his English. If I’m incapacitated, I can’t have to worry that he’s going to land on a taxiway, and kill 500 people.
I fear much worse than another Colgan. We will get another Tenerife.
Again, this isn’t a skin color issue. When you put your life in another’s hands, like we do, you don’t care; it’s a pure meritocracy. But, when the FAA starts making failed checkrides disappear, and United is putting someone behind the yoke of a 777, with no regards for the skill of the pilot, that is something else, entirely.
That's a good point about another Tenerife. With that said, my hands down most skilled student ever was a legal immigrant from Mauritania. English is his third language and from time to time there were communication issues when teaching new things, but damn that kid could fly smoothly and effortlessly.
The amount of dumb mistakes there are has nothing to do with race, color, sex, or creed. It's entirely skills, education, and motivation. The fact those things happen in a training environment isn't surprising nor a terrible thing. We've had a ton of stupid things happen at my college aviation program including two gear up landings, one with the chief instructor.
If your goal is airlines, do yourself a favor and enjoy your time at a regional. For me, the 5.5 years at a regional was more fun than college. So far my time at a major.........a bunch of old guys, some have some interesting conversations but that's about it. Oh, and a 2 month long furlough. I picked the wrong year to quit sniffing jet fuel.
Thanks. You, much more succinctly, made a point, that I was trying to make. It’s not a racial, or ethnic problem. The only thing I care about, is the other pilo’s skills. We’re just reaching out to people who like the idea of flying, more than the reality.
I also meant to emphasize that I’ve been observing the trend, recently. In the past 6 months, there has been a massive uptick in these incidents. FSDO has visited the school, to personally warn us, we’re getting ramp checks, and the instructors are on edge, about new students. And it’s to your point. The students are all perfect intelligent, nice, wonderful people. Some of them have language barriers, which can be overcome. Meanwhile, others are being walked around their first pre-flights, and their eyes are completely glazed over.
I’m all in favor of giving opportunities to those who couldn’t otherwise afford it, because of the prohibitive cost. I’m just a bit worried that I’m seeing the beginning of a dangerous trend, that’s going to manifest in a few years.
The best you can do is learn from any mistakes you make or others make, and be the best you can be to guard against others' mistakes - and that doesn't mean just in your airplane. I've had ATC screw up and try to descend me into climbing traffic by mistake, give me bad clearances, fall asleep on me. Numerous math errors caught with regards to fuel, w&b, and the like. Numerous NOTAMs missed by Dispatch (once tried to make me depart to a closed airport! and many other examples of no alternates when required by 1-2-3).
BTW, you wouldn't believe how fast people forget how to do 45 to downwind entries and make non-towered radio calls once they hit the airlines. "Can't we just ask for the ILS or RNAV?" Well, yes, but it's clear VFR and fun to actually fly an airplane sooooooooooooo we're not going to lol.
Ask Amazon Air how that worked out. Look up Atlas Air 3591. It's probably hard to find in any of the write-ups, but the first officer was a crappy pilot who was allowed to keep flying even though he repeatedly failed in his training. He was presumably allowed to keep flying even though he was a terrible pilot because he was black. He ended up putting a perfectly operational Boeing 767 into a smoking hole in the ground because he thought they were stalling and put the plane into a sudden nose dive, killing himself and the other two pilots. The icing on the cake? His family sued Amazon, because of course the did...
It kinda IS Amazons fault though. I think they have a case. amazon woke killed them all.
He could be happily living as valet. Or guy at the car rental desk.
I mean if I put you in charge of the super dough mixing machine at my commercial bakery even though you flunk training and you end up in the cookies ...
. Landing a 300,000lbs airliner is like easy. Airports are a conspiracy. You can put these things down in the river with a learner's permit but big aviation doesn't want you to know.
Check out Professor Harvey Mansfield from Harvard College. He claims Harvard has a grade inflation policy where minorities receive grades higher than they earned.
Now let's suppose that the one you love the most, needed life saving surgery. Which surgeon would you choose to save your loved one, the doctor who earned his grade, or the one who was given their grade.
Didn't Boeing do their diversity hire shit and their new plane crashed and killed people? This was some months back. I guess the airplane industry hasn't had enough deaths yet. They must have so much money that they don't need returning customers or employees anymore. Good luck to everyone who has to fly.
They outsourced the work on the 737 to Indian H1B visa holders, who frequently lie about their credentials, and quite predictably the 737 was fucked up.
Your "flight deck" should consist of the highest trained professionals in airplane flight/operation, and customer service. THAT is the metric, THAT is what airline passengers care ONLY about. Get the fuck out with this quota bullshit. I've got several airlines i refuse to patron at this point.... it's NOT a winning strategy.
I don't understand how companies are doing this when its literally against the law of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. My firm is also trying to hire more "diverse candidates" even though its the most diverse firm I've ever worked at....
I saw this in a movie. The movie was meant as a comedy, but quickly becoming a documentary. "It's OK scro, my ex wife was tarded. She's a pilot now." - Dr. Lexus
Another meme becomes real. This used to literally be the answer to wokeness: "What if your brain surgeon or airline hired according to wokeness?" Then people would understand that they want the best brain surgeon possible, or the best pilot possible. The airlines are literally willing to kill people now in air disasters to be woke.

Discrimination based on sex and skin color?!? Thought we had moved past this as a Nation. As an older American, i miss the days of meritocracy when hard work and skill earned you the job.
Lol. Meritocracy has come and gone, TOO Racist!!
I mean most states consider Hispanic people as white for crime statistics so I don't have a problem with anyone doing this
I identify as congolese in the bedroom
So you're riddled with aids, and enjoy rape/ sadism?
communism rewards the dumbest to do the bidding of the government as a reward for being loyal no matter how stupid the policies are, this is how communism works..
Ya see, meritocracy is racist because by its nature, it has standards.
United is just a stupid fucking company, anyone who still flies with them is a fool. I hope they go bankrupt.
They screwed over their employees bigly, about twenty years ago. They treat their passengers like shit too. Never, ever fly united.
A suicidal trans woman of colors is going to crash a plane into a mountain side with 400 people on it. I guarantee it.
A suicidal man of color that has mutilated his genitals is going to crash a plane into a mountain side with 400 people on it. I guarantee it.
fixed that for you.
And then cnn; "mountains are the new white supremecy"
Dis was the mountains fault and mountains are racist.
they will withhold the pilot information to pay respects, we are inching closer to the movie idiocracy.
Fifty buck on that suicidal man who pretends to be a woman but kept his genitals for the kids at the local library's "Heshee Story Hour" is gonna crash it into Mt Rushmore due to stage 45 TDS.
But, diversity
How is this not discrimination? Someone should sue their ass off.
They cannot meet that number as the supply of pilots that meet that criteria doesn't exist yet. However, keep an eye on Air Force and Navy pilots in the next two years. If they are "diverse" then in 4-5 years, they'll move into commercial flights.

I'd say 1 in 8 pilots is female or hispanic / black.... and besides they don't ask about sexual orientation in the interview so....again, total BS
I would say that 100 out of 100 non-white male persons would rather have a better pilot than one that reflects their gender/skin color.
Just read through the responses on twitter. They are getting absolutely slammed for this tweet. The only people who are siding with them are the blue haired feminazis that no one pays attention to anyway.
Two things.
I don’t expect anything less from a company with a hub in Chicago
United is at the bottom of the barrel anyway. Fuck Them
United Airlines: We admit it. Either there aren't enough qualified non-white or female pilots or we're just racists and misogynists and intentionally don't hire them. As a result, we're going to overcompensate by hiring people who aren't qualified, but will help us win social justice/woke points.

I'm open minded as the next guy but I don't want the Crips servicing.my helicopter !
Glad he got out. Sounds like a cool guy.
This is great and I am happy he got out. You read a lot of stories about very good people on patriots.win who just had a bad start in life, but were given a second chance and able to turn their lives around.
Hard work and merit are always to be rewarded. That is the best for our society.
Get woke, go crash! Just doesn't have the same ring to it.
I mean "Get Woke, Plane Goes Brokey Brokey" has a nice ring to it.
It's not that simple. They can plan that, but doesn't mean it will pan out.
A person has to grow up to want to be a pilot and they have to take very specific steps to reach that goal.
They are just pandering with this.
Flying a plane is really easy in 2020.
Flying, but landing? Landing is ALL human and is incredibly difficult. It is THE reason most people fail their pilots licenses.
It's the landing part that's sticky.
Exactly. United might want to hire more "diverse" people but the FAA still has strict policies to become a pilot. It takes a LONG time to become a pilot and its expensive and time consuming. It takes years. Luckily, the difficulty will deter most of these unqualified people.
You're naive if you think a government agency in 2020 won't wind up putting its thumb on the scales to help 'fill this void'.
You're probably right. We're fucked.
I mean it's just software right ,?
If they go through with this, they'll have a pilot shortage in no time. It's a male dominated industry, not because women are excluded - there just aren't many interested in going through the many tough years of training and financial debt. Samir! Samir, you have to listen to me. You're going to break the engine.
Don't tell me how to fly a plane...
Enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9-voINFkCg
There are students like this; I am friends with their instructors.

Keeping cool and following the "shit's FUBAR, what do" checklist from your training is an important skill.
Fail. Black folk aren't smart enough to get an ID. No way they can fly a plane.
Just using the Left's logic.
. Landing a 300,000lbs airliner is like easy. Airports are a conspiracy. You can put these things down in the river with a learner's permit but big aviation doesn't want you to know.
It’s gonna be a loooonggg time before I go near a plane again.
Now do sports
Check out Professor Harvey Mansfield from Harvard College. He claims Harvard has a grade inflation policy where minorities receive grades higher than they earned.
Now let's suppose that the one you love the most, needed life saving surgery. Which surgeon would you choose to save your loved one, the doctor who earned his grade, or the one who was given their grade.
Same thing applies here.
So it looks like they are being completely ignorant to the trans community. Bigots.
They called it the cockpit, what more do you want.
Well, won't that make us all safer!!
Didn't Boeing do their diversity hire shit and their new plane crashed and killed people? This was some months back. I guess the airplane industry hasn't had enough deaths yet. "The NBA is committed to diversity, so we have began mandating that every team needs more 4' tall Asain non-athletes." That sounds stupid too.
I don't care if the guy flying my plane is a literal Aryan Nazi in full garb. As long as he gets me from point A to B in one piece I'm cool.
Does he have papers ?
Your "flight deck" should consist of the highest trained professionals in airplane flight/operation, and customer service. THAT is the metric, THAT is what airline passengers care ONLY about. #GetWokeGoBroke
If math is so racist why do they use it to quantify diversity? Doesn't that make forcing diversity racist?
How is this legal?
Laws are feelings
I "identify" as a black, trans gay vegan satanist woman who presents hixself as a middle aged white man. Where's my free pilot training?
Wanting to land in one piece?
You're probably a racist.
Time for a Super Straight Airlines!!!!!
What's the airline equivalent of the Suez Canal? I'm expecting a diversity hire pilot to create a blockage in the next year or so.
Yep more completely racist statements that these mentally ill morons think is "being progressive."
You know, when they do this at McDonalds, they just fuck up your fries or Big Mac. When they do this at airlines, well, you do the math.
Didn’t United try that out back in September of 2001?
United Airlines planes will be crashing like a doomsday meteor storm.
All White men applying should just say 'I identify as a Black queer intersex trans rat of color', and dare them to prove otherwise.
I don't understand how companies are doing this when its literally against the law of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. My firm is also trying to hire more "diverse candidates" even though its the most diverse firm I've ever worked at....
united airlines bringing the communist propaganda
I saw this in a movie. The movie was meant as a comedy, but quickly becoming a documentary. "It's OK scro, my ex wife was tarded. She's a pilot now." - Dr. Lexus
Another meme becomes real. This used to literally be the answer to wokeness: "What if your brain surgeon or airline hired according to wokeness?" Then people would understand that they want the best brain surgeon possible, or the best pilot possible. The airlines are literally willing to kill people now in air disasters to be woke.
guy in the tweet doesnt speak for every passenger. some are stupid retarded wokies that are more concerned with 'muh inclusion' than their own safety.

Osama Bin Laden has entered the chat
These airlines got their asses saved by President Trump last year. I wonder what happened to make them all go so woke.
Let's force them to make sure every single one of their pilots is a female POC or Trans
“United is facing a spike in plane crashes, source say it’s due to RACISM and TRANSPHOBIA!!! MORE TRANS BLACK PILOTS IS WHAT WE NEED!”
Why not pick a number that reflects the actual demographic numbers? Like 17% black pilots? Etc?
I have a United Card... What international Airline can I switch to that isn't doing this woke bullshit?
Go woke, crash airplane, have state media cover up your folly. Rinse repeat
I'm buying an RV
I think United is getting WAY ahead of themselves if they think they'll be hiring 5000 pilots in the next 10 years. Flights have drastically been cut down everywhere because of the WuFlu.
