Scientists with a Lucifer complex; Heaven is not perfect enough, God messed up. But Lucifer's plans would make Heaven perfect. These people think they are God's greatest gift to this Earth. I think there are plenty who fall in love with their own plans.
Also, there is this thing called seasonal affective disorder when you don't get enough sunlight. Basically, you become depressed and are more likely to be suicidal.
But, hey maybe we learn to eat fungus instead of other foods that need sunlight to grow.

Before people freak out too much, keep in mind that at one time our government detonated a nuclear warhead in the ozone layer of the atmosphere “just to see what would happen.” Chalk dust is probably more benign than that.

I come from a scientific background and I've been talking about this for sometime. It's not really a new idea. It's well known.
We've done certain things that partially block the sun ourselves though usually it's more significant rather than merely measurable when nature does it. Volcanoes and meteorite strikes being an obvious example. Smog will tend to give you a hint if you happen to live in a Chinese city. Sandstorms might give you the idea. Nuclear winter of all things could solve our problems.
Enormous problems with it are that it could be an act of war because it can effect everyone. It can backfire and plants need sunlight. It can create feedback loops both artificial in nature and natural.
The problem I find with a lot of this is that it's hard to find the most basic data on climate change. For example, satellites recording the amount of radiation from the sun and Earth's albedo.
If these nightmare scenarios start to playout there are in theory a few extreme solutions to them. Embarking on those solutions when there's no immediate danger raises questions.
I remember hearing about this in college. They called it Geo Engineering. The idea was to try to create clouds over the sea to block out the sun and hence reduce the amount of heat entering the plant to prevent global warming (as they said back then). This was presented in a video from my school's Dean of the School of Engineering. Was part of a freshman course every student in the university was required to take.
I remember when I first herd it as a freshman college student and I thought it was a stupid idea. And the more I think about it the more it occurs to me how bad of an idea that would be
And thus, the humans had begun their own demise. Soon, the robot colony of 01 (Zero One) was born. 01 thrived in all aspects, but without abundant energy, they needed to find a new source.
