There's plenty of guns in Canada, the number of "registered" firearms is low, but that shouldn't be a surprise. A lot of people 'lost' their guns when the Liberals back in the 90's tried their gun grab.
Western Canada is a lot more like S.Dakota then Texas, but there's a very high percentage of gun ownership legal and otherwise. And the more rural you get here, the higher the chance someone has a legal or illegal(unregistered) gun. And the closer to native reserves too. See the case of the guy in Manitoba that has a .22 plinker pistol and a native got killed for his trouble.
