You're right it is ridiculous, the new 'gun law' that Jr(Trudeau) is trying to pass is even worse. It even makes replica items like BB guns, airsoft, and paintball guns that look the same as a weapon - an illegal weapon. People will just 'lose' their guns again though.
You have every right to pile on the scorn though, every right. I know you guys in the US think shit is bad there, but think of it like this. Imagine that ~40% of your entire population lived in one state, and 95% of that 40% live in one gigantic metro area(Toronto/Greater Toronto Area(GTA) in our case). Now, remove the electoral college. Next remove an elected president. Next add a senate which isn't elected, but appointed by the president(Prime Minister in our case).
Now the scary part, imagine in order to hold the highest office in the land, you only need that single area(GTA), a small area of other states(in our case Quebec, and the lower mainland in British Columbia). And you also appoint the person who is allowed to for the government(Governor General in our case) to form.
That's what Canada is like. It's got serious, serious, problems. And short of breaking areas like the GTA into their own province in order to limit the amount of pull they have.
Well we already have an unelected president and a rigged electoral college, so we're on our way, it seems. But, I have hope. I trust the plan. I wish you the best! My mother immigrated here from Europe legally; there's a pathway to do that if you're interested in becoming an American. I can't say it's great right now, but it will be :)
