Poor white people don’t need convincing to dislike other lower-class people, just like the blacks and Latinos don’t need convincing. Nobody wants to be on the bottom of the totem pole, so it’s constant one-upmanship to prove they’re better than the others.
It’s human nature, not some grand class struggle, because it tends to be stratified in the lower class. They all hate each other enough naturally, they don’t need any encouragement.
That doesn’t mean that grifters won’t try to use that dynamic to their advantage though. However they’re not the cause, just opportunists.
