Yes, most people like to see what they want to see. They assume they know everything about the circumstances of every homeless person. Just as they assume a nice smile and a nice ass with zero talent deserves $300 a day.
A lot of people don't want to enable addiction and that kind of lifestyle. Or they just don't want to risk engaging with somebody who may be mentally ill. Not everyone on the street fits that description but most do.
There are other ways to help the less fortunate. Like the salvation army or United Way or Goodwill.
