$300 to bring ice waters and smiles all day, with a few how is everything's and would you like dessert so your tab and thus my tip is bigger?
But nobody can spare $2 to give to the sign guy. This is all really stupid to me.
"But he's just gonna spend it on beer!"
First off how the fuck do you know, 2nd off Jesus said to give to all who asks, and 3rdly who the fuck cares?
A guy awhile ago asked me for $10 because he needed gas. 15 minutes later the cashier came up to me and asked if I was the guy who gave him $10, I said yeah. He said I got played, when you walked away he tried to buy a case of beer with it, but I turned him away.
I said why? It's his money he can do what he wants with it. If he lied to me that's between him and God, not between you and him.
Anyone with a small degree of common sense can read the difference between professional pan handler and guy down on his life. I mean at least I can, but maybe that's not a normal skill. I do play poker for a living so I'm good at reading people.
lol all I see are keyboard warrior words in here, lol poker player thinks he can tell a scammer from someone really homeless
why don't you put that super power to use and go call out the scammers so that only real homeless exist?
I'm clearly not perfect with it as I still get played, but that's on them not me. See what happens when you start helping the poor and needy. Life gets better.
A better help is to help them clean up for a day, make a resume with your help and help going through interviews and offers for employment. That is real help,. Handing them money is not help, it just enables co-dependency.
Instead of handing the poor money, I volunteer at a local food bank twice a month, and part of the volunteer is offering my time for job hunting during the nights and weekends on an appointment basis. In the last 5 years I have helped over 500 individuals and that led to over half of them leaving the need for being homeless and panhandle or beg.
This is real change that we all want.
What have you done?
