In Australia our highest tax bracket is like 47% or something. For that 47% we get universal healthcare, free legal aid, unemployment benefits, free rehabilitation services, free education ect, ect.
We don't mind high taxes because we get so much from them.
What's Cuomo or Newsome offering to do with such high tax rates? They'll probably hand it all out to their donors so it can laundered back to them come campaign time.
And that's totally fair. I still hate paying taxes. I actually believe it's business who should pay for all the social programs because they ultimately benefit from them. Free healthcare benefits business because it's creates a healthy and capable workforce, businesses should pay for welfare because it provides them a surplus of manpower, legal aid keeps their employees out of jail should they get in trouble.
Above all else I don't actually use these service enough to justify paying into them.

I'd rather none of that and not get taxed. Fuck taxes and fuck being dependent on the government.
