Former teacher here... I feel your frustration. For me it came to the point where I couldn’t do it any more as I was told to do. I kept thinking of the words of Christ where it is enough for the disciple to be as his master. I thought on that for months. I realized that a teacher and a student need to have an agreement between each other. The teacher must show a part of themselves that the student wants to be like and the teacher must agree to accept the student. As crazy as that might sound to you, that is what I determined to do. The part I’m gonna leave out is what happened on my way to work that day I decided to do it. Can’t describe it, but it was intensely spiritual. I was freed from all obligations and that classroom was MINE! I was no longer bound to the rules or what I should and shouldn’t teach. I was no longer afraid. After a few days, I approached our principal to tell him this, but he wanted to speak first. He told me that I would be laid off because of money issues. He was all worried about me. I told him that my classroom was my own and I’ll teach what I want. He was fine because I wouldn’t be with them much longer. Lots more to the story, but you get the teacher edition.
