THe whole STEM shortage is just an excuse to import Chinese and Indian workers on H1-B’s. At the hospital where my parents work, probably 80% of the people on their floor, and possibly much of the research building, are Chinese. They don’t come unencumbered with student loan debts so they wont demand as high wages. On top of that, the CCP pays them stipends to support them while they are here in addition to their salaries. They also get a ton of help from family in China, often brining in the grandparents to watch their children. Those grandparents then immediately claim all the benefits for Americans that have worked all their lives. My building is full of graduate students from China. Many have one or two kids, the wife does not work, they rent a large apartment in a nice area, and somehow manage to afford a nice new car as well. How the hell does anyone do this on a 30K stipend?
