Morale problems

Having never served on a Navy ship - I imagine it's depressing to be below deck all day doing the same 5 tasks over and over.

But it's peacetime, theoretically. I would think you have your sailor's work their shift then fuck off to the rec room right?

I can confirm this. Three section watch and a full days work. That means you are on watch from either 2000-2400, 0000-0400 or 0400-0700 every night for months. Never a full nights rest.

Hmmm interesting. Yeah I'm sure it's no picnic. I used to work construction and they had a similar ethic. The guys that could run on 4 hours of sleep, be at work at 6am and still go out and party till the bars closed were the ones that got ahead.

Meanwhile, I need my comfy 8 hours.

Yeah I supposed Commander Bulldyke on the loudspeaker at 3am calling all hands to mandatory diversity training and vigil for saint george floyd would get tiresome.

Rec room? no. just no. there is no "rec room" on a destroyer. Decades of peacetime mission creep have created navy ship designs that are embodiments of the philosophy "jack of all trades, master of none". Every space on a Burke destroyer is now packed with some kind of gear. Crew has space dedicated to them for eating (mess deck) and sleeping (berthing spaces). Thats it. Eat, sleep, work. Oh I suppose one must count the heads (restrooms) as well.

Well that's why you have a morale problem, sailor.

They deprive sailors on subs of oxygen. That’s how bad it is. Morale goes up when they increase oxygen.

Yeah I hear that's where the play happens...

Nope. Last congressional hearing I saw with naval leaders testifying admitted sailers were made to work 80 to 100 hour shifts with no sleep. And then these idiots wonder why they run ships into each other.
