The Chinese that stayed in china during/after WW2 were conditioned for thousands of years under authoritarian regimes/Confucianism to believe the government and/or their place in society. Looking through their history, even their good leaders aren't so good, even judging by the times.
Why didn't the Chinese citizens use mostly-peaceful fireworks like how BLM/Antifa did to the federal courthouse in Portland or wherever?
