There were people in northern idaho upset over californians moving in in the late 70's. People would see CA plates on a car in the parking lot and wait there for the person to come out so they could tell them to leave the state.
Unfortunately it didn't stick. I tried to move back home after leaving the military and a career I had 25 years of savings and found I couldn't afford a farm in Idaho. Prices were bid up to outrageous levels

How do you know if they bought a car somewhere and it has a California plate, how do you know if they’re not borrowing somebody else’s car that has a California plate on it, how do you know if the car is a rental with a California plate. We don’t, none of us do.
But regardless, spray painting somebody’s vehicle, from any state, is against the law. I recently had my car vandalized, I had to file a police report, and thank God I had comprehensive Insurance on my vehicle. The entire car needed to be repainted.
My comments are based on personal experience. Not because I’m from California, or because it was a political or racial statement, it was just vandalism.
If I had not had adequate insurance for my vehicle, I would’ve had to pay upwards $6000-$7000 to have my car repainted, or drive around with it looking like junk.
I am grateful to the Lord that I was wise enough to have the insurance needed to repair my car, but not everyone is fortunate up, or has the finances to have that type of insurance.
