My job is not one that can be done from home. All work and training are in-person. I was sent home from work in the middle of training over a year ago now because of covid. I still have my job and am still getting paid, but I have been sitting at home basically doing nothing for over a year. Zero career advancement. It's a job that, once you're training, you get "promoted" pretty quickly and the raises come fast and furious. If not for covid, I would be making significantly more money now than I was a year ago. As it is, I am stagnant.

The condition for those of us in training to go back to work has been based on covid cases in our counties (which don't even get me started on how little I trust THOSE numbers...) but my county/state has only been getting "worse". AKA it does not look like I could go back any time soon; there is no light at the end of that tunnel.

HOWEVER.....now they say, "if you get vaccinated it's safe to come back!" So, get the vaccine and your career is back on track. Technically they are not making the vaccine a condition for employment or for advancement...but in a real world way, this is what's happening. I am being strong-armed into getting the vaccine in order to be able to advance in my career and earn promotions and raises.

I'm livid. What they're doing (making the vaccine a condition for advancement) is not right. But, I'm not willing to leave this career as it's too good to throw away (money, benefits, retirement, plus the job itself is very enjoyable to me). I am in the minority with my feelings on this, almost everyone else from work thinks the vaccine is great and it's no big deal to get it (this job is mostly young and healthy people so I will never understand the urgency in getting vaccinated).

The writing is on the wall, employers WILL start making it harder and harder for employees who do not wish to get the vaccine. I'd bet money that the second the vaccines are fully certified and no longer "emergency use" most people will be forced to get one as a condition for employment.

I hate to say this, but until people start shooting managers, HR personnel, and employers who would strong-arm vaxxes on their employees, companies will soon make it virtually impossible for those who don't take the mark.. erm, vax to get work.
