Then you don't live by principles. You live by cause and effect (causality). It's normal, just also kinda shallow. You do things only to see the changes and direct results from your decisions. It's self gratifying but often the results are vapid and temporary.
Most of the famous people, the world knows the names of, did what they did out of principles. Not for recognition, though that also occasionally comes later.
I am just a nameless, faceless member of society. But I live by a strict group of principles. I refuse work, encourage those around me to also refuse it and I'm willing to quit AND move states to uphold those principles.
I'm actually in the process of transitioning jobs AND moving because of said principles. Florida has become super based. I'm trying to move there to support them.
My job has stopped respecting their workers, money's good and they respect me personally. But I don't appreciate how they treat others so I'm leaving. I'm a partner, it'll be a big blow but, I've tried to help foster change for years and it's not happening so. Principles say take a leap of faith, stand for what I believe and move on.

My agency in California does too, but once management leaves we all (supervisors included) take them all off. I never wear a mask, every fucking time I go somewhere like the post office that requires one I have to go back to the car... You will not engrain this behavior in me motherfuckers.
