I don't see how storming a french beach to push back german invaders protects canadian freedom. Us North Americans had no real skin in that game, we did it to protect the freedom of europeans. And given the current state of europe, I have buyers remorse.
Canada was part of the UK at the time. It is widely assumed that had Hitler conquered Europe he would have come for the US and Canada, if only to destroy or damage to prevent retaliation. They had plans for a plane called the America Bomber, which was to deliver nukes to the east coast by the late 40's. No reason to assume they wouldn't have done it.
