You can make them as modern as you want. You can bury them or whatever. I think they're a good solution to cheap housing. Do some insulating and interior work and you got a nice place. As you said, they are cheap and you can make just about anything out of them. All you need is a little closed cell foam insulation to make them energy efficient and you're golden.
