Funny they say that, while Washington Post uses Fraktur and Antiqua. A font used widely in Nazi Germany.
The German variant is. The English variant is called Blackletter and it was used in American banknotes in the 19th century.

Yes, really. Loom at the banner on their site some time. They have "The Washington Post" at the top in Fraktur. Fraktur and Antiqua fonts were widely used in Nazi Germany. Hitler favored Antiqua over Fraktur, but Fraktur was so widely used that replacing it was prohibitively expensive.

OH MY GOD! this actually happened to my friend (or so she said..cant actually verify) a couple days ago!!! She said she was making a kindergarten yearbook page, and used white as the font color because of the dark background.....she said the principle called her and said the white text is racist, and that she was to use black or brown only....on a dark background....so she did and now you cant read the words - but hey! At least its not racist anymore....
It makes me want to buy Asian food because I like Asian food and our brains respond to symbolism like certain typefaces. On the other hand I will not set foot in a business with a Papyrus sign. It tells me everything I need to know.
Welp! Typography is racist, you know they’re coming for braille next. God damn gill sans and his white supreme font, using it all over the London Underground, who did he think he was, fonts don’t have characters, they aren’t humanistic... I’ll be here all week with the bad font jokes... jk, I’ll close the door on my way out 🤣
The solution is only to make it look like your culture never existed.
