The Chinese went straight from feudalism to communism. they didnt have an enlightenment period. That IMO is why the chinese are so backwards in every way and do not fight back against their oppressive government.

Its also why their social credit system was implemented: an attempt to drag feudal mindset citizens into the 20th century with 20th century technology, behaviors, and expectations... which is why chinese tourists are the worst: shitting everywhere, spitting everywhere, disrespecting everyone and everything, being loud, obnoxious... feudal people behavior but in a global world.
