That's interesting. What makes it deadly?

And why does that make you happy? May I suggest a wry expression: :-/

The process of cutting, boiling, and processing the sugar cane into sugar was extremely deadly for slaves. I don’t remember specifics, but the average lifespan once a slave got to a sugar plantation was like 2 years because of the crazy workload/dangers

It doesn’t make me happy, but I think people should be aware of how sick these people are. It was more of an ironic emoticon

I would imagine the areas for sugarcane were also much more rife with tropical diseases

If I had to guess, I would say the cutting of the cane with machetes would have resulted in frequent cuts which in those days could have led to infection and death.

I haven’t read about this stuff in years, but I think they would still make you work even if you lost limbs n shit

Thanks. I also did a search, and apparently, in recent years, there is a high death rate among sugar cane workers due to kidney disease. They're not sure why, but it may have to do with the chemicals being used, and/or the burning of waste materials.

And I knew that the smiley face was ironic. I was just teasing.
