The initial attackers were delivered to the site in an unmarked cattle trailer, I guess, trying to gain the element of surprise, in their storming of a compound full of innocent women and children.
The tanks and other full on military assets appeared later, once it was apparent the initial assault on the compound had failed. The Branch Davidians allowed the government agents to return, after being repelled, to collect their dead in safety. That show of mercy was then rewarded by a 50 plus day siege, followed by immolation via incendiary CS gas shells shot into the Davidian's compound.
