Agreed. Hundreds of people collapse on the street in China every single day and most people avoid helping them. However, usually people do not pull out their cell phone cameras and stand there recording the suffering and then immediately post it to social media. But that’s what happened when Covid first hit.
Oh look there’s a guy who can’t afford epilepsy medicine having a seizure on the ground, I guess it’s Covid. Oh look there’s a grandma with lung cancer who can’t breathe polluted air, I guess it’s Covid. Oh look it’s an undiagnosed schizophrenic rolling around on the ground, I guess it’s Covid.
The Chinese government were putting these videos out as propaganda, these videos were more than just people getting sick in China and people claiming it’s covid, there were videos of mass disinfection teams, people climbing out the windows of apartment buildings that had been welded shut, all kinds of shit.
The propaganda was worse then Ive seen mentioned here yet.
The video that freaked me out and made me go buy survival supplies was building after building with dead bodies out front on the curb like they were waiting to be picked up on trash day. It was all Hollywood production
If you’re talking about a news propaganda efforts showing the government response to COVID-19, yes those types of videos were shown and promoted by Chinese state media. However the function of those videos was the show that the government was trying to take care of the people by setting up tent hospitals etc..
Were local officials doing stupid shit like welding people into their apartments or locking down entire neighborhoods? Definitely, I was here and I experienced some of that.
Were the leaked extreme lockdown videos part of a government propaganda effort to create fear overseas? No, most of those videos and that news were released by people who were upset with the over the top response and the government tried to suppress that negative news and shut those people up.
Did some of those videos leak out of China and go viral organically? Yes.
In China you can't sit at home if you feel sick.
If you feel sick or light headed with breathing trouble you still must get up and go to work, school, etc.
Also, there's no doctors, no hospitals if you are poor.
It's a very different culture and that's how those situations are possible.
We are very spoiled in NA.
