I'm not on twitter so please don't flame me for asking but what was the content of his retweet? Was he blasting the doctor for his assessment? Was he in support of his opinion? I think lots of people retweet things they don't agree with to use it as an example for an argument.

Sure, but you can also embed a tweet inside your tweet with your response. When users simply retweet, it's usually to leave it as is and agree with it.
