I did see the part of the trial you're referring to with the pictures. The problem is that's the final 10 seconds of restraint as Chauvin was getting up. If they had their angle near the beginning of restraining GF it could more meaningfully establish that position, but as it turns out it doesn't matter.
Mercil didn't clarify "that position," but he did say "neck restraint." I think defense was afraid to discover Mercil didn't have perp prone and why, and prosecution preferred keeping it vague because he had enough.
