I'm being annoying and pedantic here, but HIV is the virus. AIDS is the condition it leads to where your immune system is totally compromised and you can from something as simple as a cold.
The virus that causes AIDS, the AIDS virus if you will, is technically named the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, or HIV, because naming it the "AIDS virus" would have been too easy, and Fauci needed to look like he was busy in order to milk more grant money.

And HIV+ diagnosis is what makes the disease “AIDS.” If you don’t test positive for HIV then you just have cancer or whatever. But if you do have HIV, now they call that same exact cancer “AIDS.”
