My Great-grandmothers used to talk about no electricity/no running water 100 years ago (in the 1920s.) One of my older relatives lived in a house with no running water into the 1970s, when some of her family finally talked her into letting them install an indoor bathroom. (She had been hand-pumping water from a well prior to that.)
I know of people living near me in the rural area that live like the Amish right now. They live without most of the modern "conveniences" the 1st-World is so obsessed over (internet, indoor plumbing, etc.) by choice. It's not that they are "poor" as condescending Leftists love to claim, they just don't need those things and get by perfectly well without them.

Same here, except mine didn't have hand pump. They had a well that actually had some sort of long metal tube, not bucket, that one dropped down the well, and they would pull it up with a rope on a pulley/windlass. And, an outhouse. I still remember the smell. We were all happy when they actually got the latest conveniences, indoor toilet and some sort of indoor plumbing.
I have family who still has a functional out-house the old-timers use for the lulz. (Flyover State, LOL)
Flyover State life is a different planet from LA or any DNC Stronghold, there are lots of people living around me living Amish-style (and not just the Amish.)
