"In related news Iraq attempted to make an even bigger statue of muhammad, but couldn't find a willing artist to draw him for the blueprints."

I live in that state and didn't know about it, holy shit.

They said it's gonna cost ~400k USD and the 22k people of the small town funded it with donations. Due later this year.

31
War_Hamster 31 points ago +31 / -0

That's pretty freakin cool.

31
waxonwaxoff87 31 points ago +31 / -0

Its almost like if people think something is worthwhile they will voluntarily pool their own resources and make it happen rather than give it to a third party and wait for it to intervene.

17
War_Hamster 17 points ago +17 / -0

What a novel concept.

19
tashnag_01 19 points ago +19 / -0

Only 400k? I want one built on my front lawn!

12
jealousminarchist 12 points ago +12 / -0

I didn't do the "purchasing power parity" conversion, I just did it the dumb BRL->USD.

Bear in mind labor and maybe even concrete or whatever is cheaper down here in South America. You've probably seen some of our "OSHA" material.

So you are saying I could sell my house, move to Brazil and erect a giant statue of yeshua to live in?

Brazil seems to be one of the few based countries left on earth, especially after they overthrew their communist government by peaceably occupying their capitol for weeks.

Asking any engineer types: why would you start with the arms instead of the body?

12
The_Emperor 12 points ago +12 / -0

Balanced construction from outside to inside, where workers and material go up center. Helps assembly. Speculating.

10
Pappy_Gunn 10 points ago +10 / -0

I think it' because of acessibility. You have more room to work working from the arms to the body, than you would have if the body was closed and you had to bring material out to the arms. It could also be that the arms are one piece pre-fab units, made of fiberglass or other composite.

5
Chosimbaone 5 points ago +5 / -0

That make a lot of sense. Guess it's a good thing I'm not building it 😅

7
Nibba 7 points ago +7 / -0

Inertia. The same reason I-beams are shaped the way they are and why you stick your arms out when you lose your balance. Its like a resistance to movement. The frame is there for weight distribution but working out to in gives stability.

Christ King our Savior

-1
Grond999 -1 points ago +1 / -2

For many: A savior that is not here. A savior that has not bothered to return. Obviously there are more important things for the savior to do elsewhere.

6
XERIPHYTE 6 points ago +6 / -0

Thomas also doubted the power of the lord. Faith is like a mountain. Not everyone can keep the faith over the toughest peaks.

God works in mysterious ways, on his own timetable, on a scale we can't even begin to comprehend.

It is a true feat to build such a thing, and the super cool thing is we can examine how it's being built.

If I was a billionaire I would probably purchase land near a Godless urban shithole and build a giant statue of Christ.

-2
boiswithatimemachine -2 points ago +2 / -4

Brazil is an irredeemable race mixing shithole but this is very based.

-2
Barthaneous -2 points ago +9 / -11

Too bad Jesus Christ and all Christianity is based on denying idol worship, and God multiple times in the old and new testament condemns building statues of wood, stone and metal.

When it falls it's because God had enough.

God is not to be mocked. And there is no honor at making a statue of the living God. Read your Bible.

8
TakenusernameA 8 points ago +8 / -0

This isnt an idol, its a giant middle finger to Satan.

1
Barthaneous 1 point ago +1 / -0

Don't be a child God says.

These are all Old testament Commands from God. And there are plenty more.

Next is New Testament. And there are also plenty more. All these scriptures are WITNESS to the practice of idolatry. God is Life and in us all. Not in stone and he's not to be mocked.

Leviticus 19:4 Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 29:17 And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:)

Leviticus 26:1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God.

New testament

#Revelation 9:20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:

#Revelation 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

#1 Thessalonians 1:9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

#1 John 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

Indeed. People love quoting their favourite parts but it seems they don’t like reading the whole thing much less understanding it. Also the lack of a need for churches as “god is everywhere” and having place of worship is just a social club for most. At least it’s more tasteful than the nailed to the crucifix style of idol.

Southboundanddown 5 points ago +6 / -1

24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Hebrews 10:24-25

My wife points to Hebrews as the reason why I make us both coffee in the morning.

3
waxonwaxoff87 3 points ago +3 / -0

The bible also points out the importance of private property rights as what is freely offered can be freely revoked. Like when the Hebrews returned and a local ruler offered them land and they turned it down instead to purchase it fairly. Private property allows you to push back against earthly authorities that want to regulate worship.

2
MaxLevel0 2 points ago +2 / -0

iconoclasm throughout the centuries has destroyed history, made people forget their roots, and made people susceptible to the changing doctrinal whims of church 'leaders'.

Don't be so quick to judge people for wanting to etch their faith in stone.

Came here looking for this exact point and was not disappointed. Based and Christpilled.
