Used to work for one of the big defense contractors after they bought the company where we sold and serviced rugged laptops to military and law enforcement. It was shocking to see things move to COTS devices to cut costs. Remember that super secret cellphone the President was supposed to be packing around that could access both normal and top secret networks? I was on the development team. It was just an early version of what are now fairly common dual-SIM phones.
and yeah, i remember the entire president phone thing. First it had to be blackberry or smth, then later iphone i think.
and yeah, funny how dual sim used to be a huge deal, and now ive been using dual sim phones since 2015
would you be able to say any more about the kind of work they had you doing? or is the NDA too strict/the projects would too easily reveal which company?
COTS = Consumer Off The Shelf. Basically, anything a regular person could buy with some customized software and a huge gov't sized price tag. I was part of the team tasked with supporting the product, brought in at the tail end of the development phase.

ah, so rather than developing their own solutions, they just bought tech and maaaybe added some upgrades.
You still working in gov. contracting?
hope you have better, more meaningful work now. MAGA!
Nah, that ship sailed in 2011. They bought the company for the patents then proceeded to gut it.
