He refused to handle any pork products, which essentially meant that someone else had to be on constant standby to do his job for him in the event that a customer asked for ham. He also refused to follow any orders or instructions from the female deli supervisor, because women were "beneath him". They kept him on there for months before finally shuffling him off to various other departments at the store.
Turnover was incredibly high and we were always losing new workers, but this guy kept his job for years because management was terrified of getting hit with a discrimination lawsuit for firing him (probably the same reason they hired him in the first place). If any white employee--especially while still on their probationary period--had stated that they were incapable of performing a key part of their job, and refused to do as they were told by their supervisor, they would've been gone instantly.
I moved to a new state in 2000 and got a job in a grocery store, in the produce department. One of the other clerks was a black guy who was often scheduled alongside me in the evening shift. I noticed within a few days that he would punch in at about 4 pm, put out a couple cases of bananas, and then disappear completely till about 9:30 pm. I had no idea where he was - I think he left the store completely, might even have been going home. I brought it up with the store manager, more than once; I was told they'd look into it, and you can probably guess what happened - nothing. It was never said publicly, but I could tell they were afraid to call him out on it for fear of being called racists.
Luckily for me he was too lazy to even do that much work, and after a few months he quit on his own.

I'm not one of those people who insists that being a housewife is every bit a grueling as some 8 hour job—even if your kids are at the age/quantity where they actually generate a comparable amount of work, you get to spend hours around your children every day that the man just doesn't get. I'm sure that if you put the question to any caring mother and wife that way—"would you prefer your job to be your current career, or an equivalent amount of time per day spent caring for your children and husband"—she'd choose the latter in a heartbeat. But if you don't frame it like that, if you say "housewife"—even though that's what a housewife's job is, essentially—she's become convinced that you're suggesting she's lesser.
But just because it isn't as... grinding, for lack of a better word, as a 9-5 job does not mean it isn't as important, or as worth doing. There is skill involved, too, I won't pretend there isn't, so doing a good job is worthy of acknowledgment the same as being a particularly valuable employee is—sure, doing it may be the bare minimum of adulthood, but doing it well is worth noting.

A coworker and I were having conversations about race, and I told her that I would be completely honest with her in these conversations (since that is what they want, right?) So, I told her about this kind of stuff and how most white people perceive it and she was honestly shocked. She literally had no idea that this bothered most people. The she proceeded to call it racist thought. I told her, no it is about being polite, respectful to others, it has nothing to do with your color. She just about fell over.

In construction you have to work as a team, if a team member isn’t where they’re supposed to be the job suffers.
If each person of a crew of 5 is 10 minutes late and cuts out 10 minutes early every day for a year that’s a lot of time lost. About 43. Hours a year.
