This has been my theory for years. I have many gay friends and the common thread is sexual abuse when they were very young. My jaw dropped to see this post because I’ve never met anyone else who shared this theory.

Most gay people also suffer from shame-based mental illness, which could be further tied to sexual abuse.

This doesn’t mean all sexual abuse leads to being gay, and it doesn’t mean every gay person was sexually abused...but if a very high percentage were, it’s worth noting.
