The problem is people look at revolutions of the past through over glorified rose colored glasses. They look at each thing happening individually and say "can I survive if this happens" vs "will I survive fighting this"? And right up until it's too late, "I can survive this happening" will always win out.
We aren't the first people in history that this is happening to that saw it coming, nor will we be the first to just watch it happen anyway. There's a reason history repeats itself; human nature never changes.
