The hovering is correct though unless you are known to be qualified/experienced in fully auto weapons. They were doing their job correctly.

Remember the Range Master killed a couple of years ago in Nevada when he let a young girl shoot a full auto weapon and she lost control of it? I have seen very experienced adult shooters lose control of a fully auto weapon when firing it for the first time.

Or the dad who let his 9yo do it, and the kid shot himself in the head and dad went to jail.

MountainMan95 44 points ago +44 / -0

Yeah that guy was dumb as hell. The girl was like 8 years old and was handed a full auto UZI... Some people have no common sense...

More like BB Guns and Bolt Actions. Once they cross the 100 Pound threshold we can talk about Shotguns, and then Full Auto Guns a few years later.

I started on a .410 shotgun around second or third grade, it was necessary to help protect our poultry farm on the edge of a swamp. I graduated to a 12 gauge around the age of 13, and never owned a rifle of any kind until I was older. I owned my first .357 revolver before ever owning a .22 rimfire rifle. It was a cultural thing from the time and place where I grew up.

This was my first gun, and I’m a girl. My dad shot a hole in the living room wall (showing me how to use it, I guess, lol). I was probably 9 or 10 and it was a Christmas present. He just shook his head and said “damn”. And believe it or not, he was really great and careful with guns. But he was also a Vietnam vet and sometimes his hand actions outpaced what his mind was thinking, I guess. (He definitely knew no one was in his line of fire.)

Sorry about the boating accident. That must have really stung

With an MP5 even a grown adult not holding it properly is going to shot the ceiling baffles by the time it fires the 5th or 6th round. You really have to lean into it to control it. Seriously, even with Nato 9mm 124 grain.

3
WiseOldOwl 3 points ago +3 / -0

Really? I always heard the MP5 (never shot one) was super controllable because of the rollers. ?

2
2
WiseOldOwl 2 points ago +2 / -0

Pretty sure that's a straight blowback gun you posted, not a roller delay weapon.

https://www.heckler-koch.com/en/products/military/submachine-guns/ump/ump/technical-data.html

1
thebassdude 1 point ago +1 / -0

No doubt, thanks. I was more trying to show how you have to lean into these little demons to keep them from walking off target.

2
WiseOldOwl 2 points ago +2 / -0

Rgr. I have a semi auto mp5, I haven't gotten it out to the range yet, but it's got weird internals. The thing works on this roller delayed blowback, which is just weird to us Americans who are so used to either striaght blowback or gas operations, but Euros seem to really like delayed recoil operation.

And that I hear tell is the MP5's claim to fame. Being mega low recoil compared to other operating systems. I understand it doesn't scale up that well, that gas is way smoother at 5.56mm and above, but I don't speak from experience. Still, under that line they tell me roller delayed is really sweet.

The really screwy thing on the MP5 though is the reload. Seems the Germans think you have a week and a half to do reloads.

1
keeponwinning 1 point ago +1 / -0

It's not super hard to control, though what ammo you use may make it better or worse depending on energy, but like most firearms when it recoils it recoils up, and if you aren't leaning into it you'll be shooting the ceiling on full auto in no time.

12
Ben45 12 points ago +12 / -0

Haven’t thought about that aspect of firing full auto before

8
MR_ROBOT1776 8 points ago +8 / -0

I shot a fully auto MP5 and fully auto RPD when I was 15 and weighed probably around 130 lbs. One of the coolest experiences of my life but I agree, if a kid were to get scared and clamp down on the trigger, the barrel is going to go wherever the hell it wants to.

I don't know, I weigh 150 and could handle that MP5 like it was nothing. The 9mm doesn't kick at all.

I think children should just stay away from FA overall. Terrible recipe.

Look at the ceiling and you'll see why they hover

2

Yeah but he hovered while I was loading mags.

3

1
BingusCombat [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

And I was dry firing it and shit, so I could get used to it and feel comfortable with it, and he goes "if you wanna put a mag in, we can do it forreal". Umm, isn't it a good thing I am getting comfortable with the weapon before firing?

I literally had to say "Can I take a picture, first?" to get the one fucking picture I posted.

Can't fault them for monitoring someone they're not familiar with. If anything goes wrong, they're fucked! Still must have been a blast.

10
FliesTheFlag 10 points ago +10 / -0

No steel allowed sir...cause thats work for us to sort the shit at the end of the day. Lazy ass employees.

11
ancientarchitect369 11 points ago +11 / -0

Not necessarily an expert here, but wouldn't it be extremely easy to sort steel vs brass casings using a large magnet?

9
JustifiedTrumpian 9 points ago +9 / -0

You must have a PHD

2
deleted 2 points ago +3 / -1
2
redbeard 2 points ago +4 / -2

More like the owner doesn’t want to pay someone to sort (labor is expensive)

5
0095D 5 points ago +5 / -0

Wouldn't steel casings be magnetic? That would be pretty damn easy to pluck out of a big pile of non-magnetic brass.

3
ObviousEnmity 3 points ago +3 / -0

More like the owner is charging extra tax in the form of brass and not steel per round.

3
Based_psychologist 3 points ago +4 / -1

If only it were legal to offer low pay to down-on-their-luck /low IQ people who won’t otherwise have any source of income to do menial labor. But if you mandate that I pay 15$+ an hour, I’ll just ban steel, keep the money, and ignore the bum on the street corner begging for the money I would have paid him otherwise.

Idk, I never shot that caliber until the vector so i cant compare it. It was incredibly easy to shoot tho, rapidly too.

The action on a vector is trippy are first. Definitely a different experience.

6

You realize there’s a reason they hover! Lol. Saw a few ‘disadvantaged youth’ renting one at my home range. It didn’t go well.

6
refresco 6 points ago +6 / -0

Even in the military the RSO hovered if they were unsure of the shooter. 90lb Asian girl with a 12 gauge? That's a hoverin.

There were a few fewer ‘disadvantaged youth’ after?

1
Ronpaulblican2 1 point ago +1 / -0

Close. Very close. Then the RO kicked them out and they were not happy. The RO was a big bad Marine Reservist combat vet who let them know that it was time to go. Haven’t seen them since.

I actually recommended the battery powered milwaukee and other alternative weapons for ppl. The 1.5 ton Aluminum jack had a two piece handle that was a perfect length and diameter.

I guess they haven't seen what a nice slingshot can do.

2
Im_too_BASED 2 points ago +2 / -0

The stigma of full auto weapons is the biggest fallacy I can think of.

Have any of these gun-grabbing faggots ever actually shot a full auto weapon? You ain't hitting shit if you plan to shoot into a lively crowd. Real life isn't a video game. People don't have "hit boxes".

Full auto is designed for laying down suppressive fire, and CQB. A mass murderer would be better off sticking to semi-auto, and actually picking out individual targets.

2
Worldskipper2 2 points ago +2 / -0

Ugg, I couldn't bare to shoot anything full auto unless it was a dire situation. An entire cart of groceries gone in about 8 seconds. A luxury car payment worth of bullets /min. And that's just the cheap stuff.

1
BingusCombat [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Straight up spraying dollars out.

Still, when you get in that moment, and you loaded the whole mag, you're gonna spray it and deal with the money later.

2
refresco 2 points ago +2 / -0

Came here to say the same thing as everyone else. Hovering is responsible if you don't know if the person is capable of safely operating the firearm. Keep going back and acting right and they will likely give you some more room to breathe. I hover over everyone that shoots my guns unless I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they will operate the firearm to my standards of safety. So the new guy at work is getting hovered over at least the first time I take him shooting, but my father-in-law I dont worry about. I'm responsible for every round that leaves my firearms.

2
Smellmyfinger 2 points ago +2 / -0

Wow, what did that cost? 500 bucks in ammo plus the rental/range fee.

3
BingusCombat [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

$50 to rent, $20 for the lane, $35 for 50 rounds of 9mm

2
BroForceOne 2 points ago +2 / -0

Safety is an issue but price is probably a factor here too. My local shop is selling one of these on consignment, with the briefcase. They're asking 30k for it.

2
BingusCombat [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Oh that's a good fucking deal, I'd grab that if I had $35,000 to my name and live off the $5,000

2
BroForceOne 2 points ago +2 / -0

That's actually a very good deal. I have a friend who got one in the 80's, didn't want the briefcase. He says last time he looked people wanted 10-15k just for the case. For those who don't know, you can fire the gun from inside the case.

2

1
RedPillMAGALegend 1 point ago +1 / -0

Is that how much they go for! Shit lol

2
TraitorJoes 2 points ago +2 / -0

I used to shoot one of these in the 90's. The suburban PD I was with got one as a part of the "Crime Bill" because it was 'free' from the Feds as a part of some gas launcher, early tasers and bean bag shotguns.

We never needed one because our town had some DUI's, one hooker, some wife beaters, a few kid diddlers, and a bank robbery once every 3 years, but none the less we had to train 2x per year. The most common use was to clear business' that had forgotten to lock their back doors and they would turn it into a "training exercise" and enter like some bad 70's SWAT team sweeping each other with guns trying to hold D sized Maglites and guns at the same time. It's amazing nobody got shot.

A dog watch officer, known for his retardation and who looked like a fat ass Barney Fife, decided to use it to shoot a racoon that was in an old ladies window well at 3 AM. He missed, the bullet ricocheted into the house going thru the window and hitting the front of her 27" Sony Trinitron (an expensive TV at the time). The department made the local news and the residents were pretty upset that we had a sub-machine gun. Soon after that the Chief pretty much shelved it. He retired and when to work for FEMA. I'm sure it is in his personal collection by now.

Here in the United States you CAN own a tank, don't even need the tax stamp that MP5 needs if you "permanently" disable the weaponry, if you put rubber pads on the tracks you can register them for road use, and last time i looked(bare in mind this was ~10 years ago now) you could buy a functioning M18 Hellcat for significantly less than a MP5 runs(back then i was finding M18s for ~18k and M24s for ~30-35k, a poster higher up commented that his local shop is selling one of these for 30k)
