It looks like she just kept trying to pull harder and harder (but slow)... then he comes up and grabs it tight in his outer hand with the cord loose and swings his arm outward so it jerks tight (fast). I think she can learn to do that if she starts with the cord held tight in her hand but sagging loose and runs away (using her legs to brace and gain speed before it jerks) and boom
