This is actually a common tactic of communist regimes. Stalin and the heads of the KGB were well known for blaming atrocities and evil on the rank and file members of the KGB.
If you need to put up a sacrificial lamb its easy to do so. It also gives you an easy justification for taking even more power for the party leadership (low-level commanders can't keep their troops in line or don't screen for anti-communists well enough so the top brass should have unlimited power because they can do it right).
I got one lefty I know to realize he actually hates the government even tho he told me he wanted bigger government. I said didn't you spend 3 years of your life in prison for a first time nonviolent drug offense? I'm pretty good at getting through to some of these people if they have any open-mindedness (I know many do not). But many still do and it's worth talking to them about it.
Yea I think I struck some deep chords and I've made him way more nihilistic in the left than before. He's an old hippie who smoked half his brain away.
The first step in creating a totalitarian government is to centralize the control of power-- namely, law enforcement. In America, police departments are intentionally decentralized and ran semi-autonomously, for this reason.
The goal/purpose of BLM/antifa is to get these local governments to willingly abolish their local police forces, which will inevitably turn control of their streets over to the centralized state. The state AG's office can swoop in and create a new police force that is set up under their direct control, with leadership that is loyal to the party.
The idea that any township or locality in America will exist without some type of law enforcement to protect it is a sick joke, and proof that the Useful Idiots are serving their purpose.

Is he seriously reevaluating?
