Right before the unions pushed for "equality" in the workplace and displaced many happy American women by making them have to leave their children. A man used to earn all the income of a family, but now thanks to "equality", you can't support a family of ONE on what a single person makes, unless you're in a trade, management, or a specialty, and even then you have to put in the time for it. People used to support their families working at grocery stores, for crying out loud.
I think there's a great deal of confusion on this board about the subject of unions. They were key to men making enough to supporting families. I am not talking about government unions which are a strange phenomenon.
I have worked as a union member and on my own. Done alright both ways. But looking back it's clear that there are sound reasons for unions. Do you doubt for one moment that the wealthy owners of corporations work to stop unions to maximize profits at all costs? They collude to suppress wages. They lie about labor shortages to get more H1B visas. Llisten, I understand Joan the word union has been demonized, but it's really beyond debate that when negotiating with someone who has almost all the cards, strengt h in numbers means more than take it or leave it scraps. And some employers and unions have real mutual respect knowing that they need each other.
