Democrats would split into the mainstream vs the socialists. It's like this in Puerto Rico. There are no Republicans. Just 2 parties of Democrats.
The little guy will be the independents. Local political parties who run their towns, but don't exist outside of their towns.
Democrats tried to make a power play for 3+ towns south of me, and independents / local political parties shut them out. Even Waukegan, IL. Every town the Democrats had opposition, they lost. GOP didn't even try and independents beat them.
