We don’t even need to call it “God given” if they don’t like it: the right to defend oneself by any means necessary is as much of a natural law as eating and drinking.

It’s merely that we, by virtue of existing, have a right to defend ourselves singularly OR together against other groups. The other groups could be our government, a hostile force, or really anything. That’s why the second protects the first, there is an ‘assembly’ common thread that both share and is often overlooked.
