Pulling cord for artillery is a rotating at the waist thing, and you let go of the cord. There wasn’t an actual round fired, just the primer, so I don’t think it matters. Running fire missions all day, and hauling rounds, you learn not to pull cord with your arms.

There’s a right way and a wrong way. Wrapping the chord around your hand is a great way to lose your hand. User your body not your hand with a noose around it..
