She used to drop "forget and forgive" probably the weakest statement ive ever heard in my entire life. I'm agnostic, but do attend church because the community aspect and everyone there shares my morals and political beliefs.
The only response that "forget and forgive" shit deserves is: "Forgiveness belongs to he who is contrite for his sins, renders penance, and SINS NO MORE." Anything less isn't christian.
So I'm an atheist, but me and my wife want to start going to church when we get settled in a redder state (we move in like 2 weeks). We want a community and want to be surrounded by people with similar values. Do you have any recommendations or advice about finding a church or what to watch out for?
I would look for a place where people talk about real issues instead of merely praising God, where the pastor does not shy away from difficult subjects, and especially one where women are not in charge.
It’s nice to read from the Bible, but do they connect it to modern day events? You want something you can benefit from in your own life, not some abstract thing where the preacher is just reminding you what is in the Bible and collecting your tithe.
Ayn Rand rightfully tears into “Altruism” and the negative effects of a society consumed by it. I’m a Christian but she makes sense. If Jesus turned his cheek on anything, i doubt it was to make friends rather than show on full display the actions carried out by bad actors if given the opportunity. It is not hard to come up with a list of companies to avoid. It's more difficult to come up with a list of companies to actually invest in. For us to change company behavior we need to not only boycott, but invest accordingly. Conservatives control trillions of assets in retirement accounts yet most of us blindly invest in funds that further enrich woke companies.
The closest I have come across is Timothy Plan investments, which has mutual funds that include Biblically responsible companies. However, in looking through their ETF holdings they also include some that have recently gone woke. Their management fees are also slightly higher than regular index funds.
If anyone knows of other funds or even just a list of good companies I would love to know.
