I think a combination of crypto and decentralized coinage is the way. The problem with crypto is that it's borderless which is one of the reasons why the USD is compromised to begin with. It's not bad, but it's not the answer.

Cheap coins whose value is attributed to the means of manufacturing is the way to go. Anyone could manufacture them. They are conceptually too simple to be counterfeited.
