Trans fats are actually bad. Trans fats are created when processing oils in most cases and are not natural in large quantities. Pretty sure crisco and other manufactures would love to not have had to update their entire manufacturing system seeing as outlawing trans fats only hurts them and nobody else. Now saturated fats, which you probably are meaning to say, are healthier although still not amazing for you in extreme quantities. Saturated fats are found in the flavorful fats found in meat, lard, and butter not trans fats.

Saturated fats are what the article op posted is referring to and yes that would be what was controversial in the 70s, which was mostly unwarranted as saturated fats are not the most heathy thing in large quantities but if you have a balanced diet and dont just eat butter basted ribeyes steaks daily wont hurt you. In fact saturated fats being seen as an evil caused margarine and shortening to be marketed as healthier alternatives. Only problem is those products up until trans fats were banned were made by partial hydrogenation which made them loaded with trans fats.
Trans Fat is what gives Food Flavor without dumping Sugar or Spices on it.
