Grass will always be greener elsewhere. Man has always been prone to evil. This postmodern idea of all people being inherently good and not capable of true evil is what lead us to where we are today. They choose to rewrite history or flat out ignore it since it doesn't support their narrative so we continue the same cycle of self-destruction. It has been this way through our entire human history and will run its course. Better to be a stoic than an optimist these days.
