There are a number of incidents in which a cop has intended to draw a taser and pulled out a pistol instead. Under stress, you'll tend to go the more familiar movement, and cops train with their pistols more often.
When they issued me a taser, I trained to use it with my off hand. I never used it with my gun hand. To me, taser meant left hand and gun meant right hand. I also tended not to wet myself when faced with hostility, which helped.
And a safety tip: When you're being arrested, don't run and fight.
Agreed. I agree with everything you’re saying. There’s a problem either with training or with whatever else. But the officer should know what the fuck she’s using. Sorry, if fear or stress are the case (I don’t presume to know) they need more training before their on the streets.
Agreed. It's on the cop and the department to get that straight. There's no good excuse for using the wrong weapon. I went off-hand the taser to prevent anything like that, but every cop needs to be in control of himself and aware of what he's doing.
This is fucking great. Almost all of these things were cases in which the suspect totally fucked up. Now, while this very obviously seems to have been the result of incompetence as opposed to malice, nevertheless, this gives plenty of fuel to anyone that wants a fire. How in the fuck was this lady not able to tell the difference between a taser and a gun? Jesus fucking Christ.
