I work for a firearms manufacturer. We have to pay way more to source ammo because we are competing with literally every shop in the US. Primers are mostly manufactured overseas (Italy is one of the major exporters and they were the first to shut down from the coof)
It is not an industry that people can just get into without massive funding due to the ridiculous government regulations and the top level businesses black listing and bullying small start ups out of the space.
I talked to winchester Reps the other month and they said that they recently got 60 Million primers in, but that they plan to release all their ammo at once to try and drive prices down. I was given a timeframe of 8 months to a year before they plan to do that.
Demand is higher than ever. My sales in January 2021 were greater than the entire year of 2020 (which was already record highs).
Throw in the hot war that is around the corner and hyperinflation, and I don't expect prices to dip to pre-coof levels ever again.
