Emotional intelligence has been defined, by Peter Salovey and John Mayer, as "the ability to monitor one's own and other people's emotions, to discriminate between different emotions and label them appropriately, and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior". This definition was later broken down and refined into four proposed abilities: perceiving, using, understanding, and managing emotions.
Nice argument there.
Just replace EQ with "how well you can process and control your emotions" if you're so triggered by the term.
Except that's not what "EQ", the pop-science concept with no real basis in reality, means.
It's exactly what it means, though it expands to the scope of other's emotions too.
Either way, it's a convenient way to refer to how well one tags & processes emotions.
High IQ = smart
High EQ = stable
Nonsense, it's more just a synonym for the "agreeability" trait. Has nothing to do with self control or stability.
