Yeah, that was a tough time (really was hard on my husband; I remember him busting his ass doing all kinds of odd jobs while he was looking for employment), but we got through it -- and my kids got Christmas...thanks to the Dollar Tree! (ps. they used to have a nice selection of little books on history, the presidents, and things like that for kids...$1, can't beat that).

I once bought a friend a blow up pterodactyl at the dollar tree. For another buck they did a pretty decent job of filling it with helium.
It all leaked out within 12 hours, but that was an awesome $2 afternoon and evening.
