The state does it because they vote for it. They stick out their hands demanding gibs and because democracy itself is fundamentally immoral, they get their gibs.

That's fair. I'd rather eliminate the power of the state to take and distribute gibs but that seems unlikely. And like you said, 90% the calls to unity are in bad faith.
