A good friend called me a “bigot” last year for pointing out that the Proud Boys were not founded as a “white supremacist” organization (nor do I think they are today). He claimed giving a proper account of their history was “defending” their actions.

I called him out as living in a NYC hipster bubble and not understanding what was happening in the rest of the country. Claimed something about tolerance not meaning you have to listen to “bigots”. My friend group said I was too harsh on him, despite he, a black man, calling me a racist without evidence. They stopped talking to me altogether. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
