I agree with your assessment of "classical liberalism":
A political theory founded on the natural goodness of humans and the autonomy of the individual and favoring civil and political liberties, government by law with the consent of the governed, and protection from arbitrary authority.
Today however, it has been perverted beyond recognition.
The progressive left co-opted the word liberal. Liberal had positive connotations going back through British politics in the Victorian and pre-Victorian era (1800’s).
Similarly the left co-opted progressive from the early 20th century. Which also had positive connotations.
Of course most here understand this. The modern left are authoritarians and we should use every opportunity to describe them as such. They have literally become the fascist boogeyman that they imagined the right to be, which is ironic on a cosmic scale.
