I do the same for small engines (lawnmowers, edgers, tillers) in the spring. Suburbanites have no idea how to winterize a carb. They get it out in spring, struggle to start it with old gas, put it on the curb and buy a new one.
I dump the carb bowl and gas tank, refill with fresh gas, a few pills and presto... running engine.
I've had to take my mower apart twice in the last year.
One time for the fuel intake cracking. A couple times for torn pull ropes. Had to replace a gasket in the carb...
It's sad they don't teach high school kids how to take apart a 2 cycle engine and put it back together. Seems something every high school graduate should know how to do.
I like briggs stratton engines. They seem durable and last a long time with some maintenance and minor parts repairs.
Start using ethanol free gas. No cracking/drying of the rubber and plastic in the fuel system. Stored gas stays good for a long time. (All year?) Gas doesnt gum up the bowl or tank over winter. My mower, chainsaw, blower and weedeater start up in two or three pulls after months. Find stations that carry here
It's amazing how much good lumber goes into the landfill.
The day before trash pickup day, I can load the back of my truck with hundreds of dollars of lumber just driving around nearby neighborhoods.
